I actually discovered this about a year ago, but it deserves the press!
Dragon’s Gold by Bard’s Beer can be found at several smaller markets, like Stadium Thriftway. I have yet to see it at larger stores.
According to their website, Bard’s Beer realized the “cruel injustice” that most brewing agents are basically poison to people with celiac disease and other forms of gluten intolerance. They therefore set out to make “America’s first sorghum malt beer and the only beer brewed with 100% gluten-free malted sorghum.”
But please don’t let the geeky connotations of the fantasy-realm names scare you away! This is pretty fantastic stuff. Their product sheet lists it as a medium-bodied American lager with a low-bitterness quotient. To me, it tastes a lot like Alaskan Amber, and is an incredibly refreshing. I try and keep at least a bottle or two in the fridge at home, and when I bring it along to parties (so I’ll have something besides cider and hard-a), it often gets mixed right in with the rest and happily consumed by everyone, gluten-intolerant, vegetarian, and omnivore alike.
